Abstract
The purpose of the study is to propose the main directions for development of the Russian petrochemical complex to adapt to new conditions and strengthen competitiveness in domestic and global markets, considering the identified major global trends in the industry. The process of adaptation of the Russian petrochemical complex to ongoing geopolitical and economic changes is the subject of the study. The article uses the method of quantitative content analysis as well as methods of scientific cognition – generalisation and synthesis – within the framework of a systematic approach. As a result of statistical data processing, dynamics of changes in the gross domestic product and chemical production in the world as a whole and by region are studied, a graphical representation of the dynamics of these indicators and a comparative analysis of graphs of oil refining volumes and production of base polymers in Russia are performed. The factors that can influence development of petrochemistry are identified, the experience of responding to challenges from various countries is considered, and a conclusion is formulated about fragmentation of global petrochemical production with concentration in the countries with the most competitive conditions for its development. Potential options for using international experience in the Russian petrochemical industry are presented. The need for transformation of the Russian petrochemical complex is justified, confirmed by dynamics of the oil refining volumes and production of base polymers in 2021–2023. As a result of the study, we present list of the most important directions of the petrochemical complex development, applied and possible support measures for modernisation of the domestic petrochemical industry in the current conditions of the movement towards technological sovereignty through building coordinated interaction between state, science and business.
