Abstract
Amid the turbulence of the global economy, changes are also taking place in population’s well-being, which are recorded not only in the poorest countries, but also in relatively developed countries such as the USA. The comparison of indicators determining the standard of living in the Southeastern United States has been carried out. The purpose of the study is to compare the standard of living in the Southeastern United States and identify trends in the standard of living in these states. The objectives of the study are to form a ranking of states according to the rating of each considered indicator of living standards and a general ranking for all three analyzed indicators of living standards, identifying their dynamics. According to the study results, in the states with a more diversified structure of the national economy, the quality of life is higher. Moreover, in these regions, the insignificant impact of external factors on the social and economic development and the standard of living has been established. Such factors include the impact of global economic crises. The study has not revealed any trends in changes in the standard of living in the future in the regions under consideration. In some states (for example, in West Virginia), the negative impact of scientific and technological progress on the economy state is noticeable, which is reflected in the transition of the energy industry to more modern and cheaper fuels such as shale gas.
